USA: Why ‘Price Stability’ Is a Myth

As someone who’s watched real estate markets shift across Middle Tennessee since 2005, I’ve seen firsthand how prices rarely move in lockstep. The idea of ‘price stability’ in the US is more myth than reality. When prices for certain items rise—think hotel rooms, sports tickets, or even tuition—others, like technology, often become more affordable. It’s not about everything getting more expensive at once, but how we spend and what we value shifting over time.

The complexity behind every transaction and global supply chain makes it unrealistic to expect any central bank to create true price stability. Instead, a steadier dollar could free up investments currently tied to inflation protection, possibly lowering some costs while pushing up prices for truly scarce goods even further. In the end, changing prices don’t always signal decline—they can also reflect our evolving economy and new opportunities. Navigating these changes is just part of being a Realtor and a trusted resource for my clients and community.
